Jan 22, 2016 (newstodate): While IATA's CASS figures have consistently painted a bleak picture of Sweden's export cargo in 2015, Swedavia figures show a positive growth of total cargo and mail through Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
According to Swedavia statistics, Stockholm Arlanda handled a total of 71,788 tonnes of cargo in 2015, which was 7.8 percent up on the preceding year.
Mail volumes were also up by 11.6 percent, y-o-y, to 18,850 tones in 2015.
In December 2015 alone, the airport handled 6,016 tones of cargo, also up 3.6 percent, while mail volumes were unchanged at 1,936 tonnes.
The rise in cargo through Stockholm Arlanda Airport reflects several factors including the move of TNT traffic from Vasteraas to Stockholm Arlanda from September 1, 2015, as well as the new route from September 10, 2015 by SAS to Hong Kong, and Norwegian's opening of flights from Stockholm to Puerto Rico from November 3, 2015, and to Las Vegas from October 31, 2015.
