Jan 14, 2016 (newstodate): Cargo volumes dipped steeply at Finland's Helsinki Airport in 2015.
A total of 181,527 tonnes of cargo was handled at Helsinki, a decline by 14.7 percent, y-o-y.
Contributing to the decline was the single largest category, International cargo that was down 14.4 percent to 150,366 tonnes, and international mail volumes were also down by 16.4 percent to 9,185 tones in 2015.
Defying the bleak picture of cargo trends in 2015, Finnair is now amid a construction project for its new cargo terminal at Helsinki Airport, to be commissioned in 2017, ready for handling of the carrier's cargo volumes on the growing fleet of new Airbus A350 aircraft.
The 31,000 sq m terminal will be divided into three zones: 25,000 sq m will be dedicated to general cargo handling, and two spaces for temperature-controlled zones, roughly 3,000 sq m each.
