Jan 26, 2016 (newstodate): CASS-statistics will take you some way towards assessing a country's cargo market - but they do not provide the full picture..
-Seen from CASS statistics alone, Sweden's air cargo performance in 2015 has not been overly positive. But after all, the export volumes by IATA carriers are probably not more than half of the actual tonnage carried through the airports, says Karsten Bjarbo, Swedavia Gen Mgr Cargo Operations.
-Swedavia's statistics also comprise only the flown cargo, leaving the trucked cargo unaccounted for. We are, however, working hard to come up with more comprehensive statistics and will present this in the near future.
-Pending the finalization of the all-year statistics for 2015, we can report 91,000 tonnes carried through Stockholm Arlanda Airport during H1, 2015, including 18,000 tonnes of trucked cargo. This shows that we have managed to increase the volume of flown cargo at Stockholm Arlanda while the trucked cargo has remained fairly stable. In total we recorded 85,000 tonnes of flown and trucked cargo in H1, 2014.
-The increase in flown cargo is probably mainly due to the introduction of Emirates' flights from September 4, 2013, and the expansion of Norwegian's long-haul flights to the USA and Asia.
-All in all, given the conditions in the global marketplace where tonnages have generally been declining, we are quite satisfied with the performance of Stockholm Arlanda Airport and will be eager to present new statistical evidence to prove this point with new tools, says Mr Bjarbo.
