Jan 27, 2016 (newstodate): The Icelandic ACMI provider Air Atlanta Icelandic is modestly looking back on a "decent" year 2015, with rather good prospects for 2016 as well.
-All our aircraft were on long-term contracts in 2015, and already now we are actually fully sold out in 2016 as well, says Baldvin Hermannsson, Air Atlanta Icelandic VP Sales & Marketing.
-The freighter market has been relatively soft with stiff competition, but the fuel prices have been helpful for us, and no aircraft can compete with the Boeing 747 in this segment of the cargo market. In 2015 we continued our successful cooperation with Saudia and launched a new cooperation with AirBridgeCargo that is now operating two Boeing 747-400 freighters on long-term contracts with good results and a high utilization of capacity.
-In the volatile ACMI market for passenger aircraft we experienced lower yields than expected, but the situation improved in the latter part of 2015, and we actually added two more Boeing 747-400 passenger aircraft during Q4 which also indicates that the situation was back to normal again.
-In the freighter market, the carrier is now operating a total of eight Boeing 747-400F, having phased out all Classic aircraft, as well as seven Boeing 747-400 passenger aircraft in addition to the management on behalf of Air Madagascar of one Airbus A340, and one Airbus A330-200 aircraft placed with Saudia, says Mr Hermannsson.
