Sep 15, 2015 (newstodate): The UK LCC easyJet was long sitting on the fence awaiting its chance to enter the Russian market.
Now the appetite has cooled..
easyJet will thus suspend its services to Russia by March 21, 2016, due to low demand in the market and the effects from a strict Russian visa regime.
Starting from March 18, 2013, the carrier launched flights with two daily rotations on its newly-won route between London and Moscow after having seized the opportunity as BMI exited the route as a consequence of BA's acquisition of BMI from Lufthansa.
Already from January 27, 2015, easyJet cut one of two daily flights between London and Moscow on three out of seven days, retaining only two daily operations on and around weekends, and from the start of this year's summer schedule from March 29, 2015, the carrier cut further to be offering only one daily flight during the week.
easyJet's other Russian flights connecting Manchester and Moscow will also be closed down alongside the London service.
