Sep 09, 2015 (newstodate): Cargo volumes through Latvia's Riga Airport are almost halved compared to last year.
After the end to the bonanza caused by ISAF flights from April 2012 with provisions to forces in Afghanistan, the situation in cargo is now returning to normal standards.
In January-July 2015, the airport has thus handled a total of 10,500 tonnes of cargo and mail which is 48.6 percent down on last year.
The totals include 6,142 tonnes of exports and 4,258 tonnes of imports.
airBaltic ranked #1 in volumes with 4,015 tonnes of cargo including 2,083 tonnes of exports and 1,932 tonnes of imports, followed by #2 EAT operating for DHL and carrying 1,463 tonnes of cargo including 616 tonnes of exports and 849 tonnes of import shipments.
In 2011, prior to the start of the ISAF flights, the airport handled a total of 12,554 tonnes of cargo, and in 2010 volumes were 12,248 tonnes.
