Sep 28, 2015 (newstodate): Cork Airport, in Ireland's Southwest, is to get its first Transatlantic flights from next year.
Bringing in this new traffic is Norwegian that plans to launch services from Cork to Boston from May 2016 with four or five weekly flights.
Plans are to add flights to New York from 2017, and Norwegian will also start flights between Cork and Barcelona from May 2016 with four or five weekly rotations.
The new long-haul routes from Cork to Boston and New York will be operated by Boeing 737-800 aircraft and the new Boeing 737MAX for which Norwegian Air International will be Boeings European launch customer.
The Transatlantic plans however depend on a positive outcome for Norwegian's application for a foreign carrier permit from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
