Sep 30, 2015 (newstodate): Boeing is seeing a market for 1,000 narrow-body conversions to freighters over the next 20 years. And after the conversions of the -300 and -400 models, even the -800 is now being targeted.
Despite the still rather high value of the Boeing 737NG aircraft, Boeing sees potential customers for Boeing 737-800 P2F program especially in the US and the Chinese market, including express companies.
And rightly so: the new Hangzhou-based YTO Express Airlines, owned by YTO Express, has now been confirmed as the launch customer for the converted -800 freighter, with an order for 15 aircraft offering longer range, better payload and improved fuel economics compared to the Boeing 737 Classic conversions.
YTO Express Airlines performed its first commercial flight only on September 26, 2015, with three Boeing 737-300 freighter aircraft in the fleet.
Among the owners of YTO Express is the dominating Chinese e-trade portal, Alibaba.
