Sep 01, 2015 (newstodate): As from today, the Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways has new hands on the steering wheel.
Taking up the position as Atlantic Airways CEO is Johanna a Bergi who succeeds Jorgen Holme that had his last day in the office on August 31, 2015.
Ms a Bergi takes over at a time when the strategy has been firmly implemented since one year, with results showing green lights for the carrier in the form of a rise in passenger volumes by 11 percent, y-o-y, during the current summer schedule, a significant improvement by 17 percentage-points in regularity, and a slimmed organization after the restructuring managed by her predecessor.
Among the first issues to be decided upon by the new CEO is the choice of aircraft type to be allocated to serving the regional route network under the NORD strategy.
Mr Holme was installed as interim CEO on November 18, 2013, in a surprising move by the Board that abruptly sacked the CEO since 1995, Magni Arge, after disagreement over strategy.
The prime task for Mr Holme was thus to take the airline through a process towards formulating a new strategy that was eventually launched on June 18, 2014 with a strong focus on serving the country with affordable and adequate flight connections, abandoning earlier attempts to engage also in ACMI and charter operations.
Atlantic Airways was the first airline in Europe to use the Required Navigation Performance approach on its three Airbus A319 aircraft now in service with the carrier that is to take delivery of a new Airbus A320 by the end of 2016.
