Sep 02, 2015 (newstodate): As the only and largest cargo carrier in Lithuania, Lufthansa Cargo has gone fully paperless from the start of this week.
As reported by newstodate yesterday, some freight forwarders claim that there are, however, still IT snags to be sorted out. But this is not confirmed by the ground handling agent of Lufthansa Cargo in Vilnius, Litcargus Cargo Center.
-Lufthansa Cargo was designated by IATA to take responsibility of the e-AWB drive in Lithuania, and this company has become the first here to go fully paperless. And from our side we see absolutely no problems, says Darius Spetyla, Litcargus sales manager.
-This is welcome development and we can only hope for other carriers handled by Litcargus, such as airBaltic, Finnair and SAS to follow suit, which will however be their own decision, of course.
-The move by Lufthansa Cargo also means that any forwarder in Lithuania that wants to do business with the carrier must be capable of delivering the paperless e-AWB. Either they operate the IT system system themselves, or chose to cooperate with another company to produce the electronic AWB. Otherwise they cannot be a Lufthansa Cargo agent.
-As for the security issue, forwarders also do not need to present any paper AWB and do not need any further stamp in the case of Lufthansa Cargo. We have all the information needed in our system, and all info is uploaded into the Lufthansa Cargo system, says Mr Spetyla
