Sep 28, 2015 (newstodate): Estonian Air is expecting the imminent delivery of the first of two new Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft to alleviate its current shortage of own aircraft capacity.
The carrier expects to receive the first CRJ700 aircraft already later this week while the exact date of delivery has now been settled yet. The second aircraft will then follow shortly after.
Estonian Air signed the lease contract in July 2015, and the two aircraft will replace the Embraer 170 aircraft that are in the process of redelivery to the the lessor.
Already in the fleet of Estonian Air are three Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft that offer up to 90 seats against the CRJ700's maximum of 78 seats.
With the new CRJ700, Estonian Air will obtain the efficiency and economic benefits from operating a single-type aircraft fleet.
Pending these deliveries, Estonian Air has been forced to lease in additional capacity on short-term wet-lease contracts.
Estonian Air is thus now operating one E-145 leased from bmi Regional, one ATR72 on a lease from the Lithuanian subsidiary of the Danish carrier DAT to be used till the end of October, as well as one SAAB 340 leased from Airest till the end of December 2015.
