Sep 03, 2015 (newstodate): With the Embraer E-170 re-delivery scheme already in progress, Estonian Air's aircraft fleet is closely tailored to match its core flight business.
The carrier's fleet comprises three Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft, and of the originally four E-170 aircraft, one has been re-delivered, a second is in the re-delivery process, and two are operating for Austrian Airlines till the end of this year.
As one of these aircraft serving with Austrian will be redelivered also this autumn, Estonian Air is providing instead one of its three Bombardier aircraft for the remaining part of the contract period.
As Estonian is, however, seeking ad-hoc and charter business as well to boost revenues, the carrier is leasing in additional capacity on short-term wet-lease contracts.
By the end of August, Estonian Air thus leased one Airbus A320 from the Latvian charter and ACMI provider SmartLynx for just one day on a specific assignment, and in the fleet are now also one E-145 leased from bmi Regional, and one ATR72 on a lease from the Lithuanian subsidiary of the Danish carrier DAT to be used till the end of October, as well as one SAAB 340 leased from Airest till the end of December 2015.
On a more permanent basis, Estonian Air is to add two CRJ700 aircraft slated for delivery on a leasing contract by mid-September 2015.
Until recently, among the plights of Estonian Air was the burden of excess aircraft capacity with four E-170 and three CRJ900 exceeding the needs from daily strictly adjusted network operations.
