Sep 08, 2015 (newstodate): The acquisition by CEFC, China Energy Company Ltd. and Travel Service of a stake in the Czech Travel Service will open new venues of opportunity.
As a first step, the Chinese partner will take 10 percent of the carrier, but plans are to increase to 49.9 percent of the shares securing the Czech airlines' status as a carrier registered in the EU provided the deal is confirmed by the respective regulators.
The cooperation between the two parties will open up for new traffic between Europe and China, and a harbinger of what's to come will be the opening of flights by Hainan Airlines between Beijing and Prague starting from later this month with three weekly rotations using Boeing 767 aircraft.
Prague will thus become Hainan Airlines' seventh European destination after Paris, Brussels, Berlin, Moscow, St Petersburg and Rome.
But plans, details of which have not yet been revealed, also envisage another project with "a major Chinese carrier" to add traffic between Prague and Chinese destinations.
