Sep 10, 2015 (newstodate): A recent change of cargo operating company at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport has so far proved a disaster to the industry.
A tender process for cargo handling at the airport ended in January 2015 with Moscow Cargo emerging as the winner.
The company was, however, ill prepared for the task, causing cargo shipments to pile up at its terminal as the handling was moved away from its former handling company, Sheremetyevo Cargo.
The situation has now developed so deeply that Moscow Cargo has felt obliged to write to cargo agents around the world.
-In view of the ongoing disruption of cargo handling at Sheremetyevo Airport, the emergency response team has decided that cargo agents may be admitted to the cargo premises of Moscow Cargo to assist in searching and identifying shipments, the letter says.
Earlier, an embargo has been introduced with effect from September 8, 2015, until further notice for all types of import shipments consigned to Sheremetyevo and all types of transfer shipments consigned beyond the airport.
