Sep 03, 2015 (newstodate): Aeroflot's decision, backed by the state, to acquire the ailing Russian carrier Transaero would have an impact on the country's air cargo scene as well.
In January-July 2015, Aeroflot was #2 on the Top-5 list with 351,373 tonnes, and Transaero was ranked #3 with 162,259 tonnes.
Together, the two carriers thus accounted for 513,632 tonnes bolstering Aeroflot's current #2 ranking but still a far cry from the volumes by #1 on the list, Volga-Dnepr Group's AirBridgeCargo that lifted a total of 2,189,630 tonnes.
If Aeroflot and Transaero are actually merged and accounted for as one carrier, newcomer to the Top-5 list in Russia's air cargo industry would be Katekavia that transported a total of 39,126 tonnes of cargo during the first seven months of 2015.
The impact from the coming acquisition would be significantly greater on the passenger side, however.
During January-July 2015, #1 among the Top-5 Russian carriers was Aeroflot that transported 41,599,123 passengers and #2 Transaero another 24,475,758, making a joint total of 66,074,881 passengers.
Again a far cry from #3 S7 Sibir that accounted for "only" 8,676,593 passengers during the seven months.
