Aug 20, 2015 (newstodate): Will Greenland see the launch of its first low-cost carrier in 2015 after Greenland Express has announced that its planned flights have been postponed again?
Looming in the horizon is still another project, Aluu Airlines initiated by Pele Broberg, a former Air Greenland pilot, and Kuno Fencker, Royal Arctic Lines Chairman of the Board.
Aluu Airlines handed in its application for an AOC in December 2014 and planned for introduction of Airbus A321 services between Greenland and Denmark as well as turbo-prop feeder services between Kangerlussuaq and destinations in Greenland.
Initially, the launch of services was slated for June 1, 2015, but the start was postponed, the company said in March 2015, allowing for adustments to the company structure as required for the issuance of the carrier's AOC - and the project is to start out as a real, not virtual carrier, it has been stressed.
The project for Aluu Airlines does, however, seem to be still alive despite a long lapse of silence.
-We do not want to duplicate other carriers' mistakes, taking instead a cautious and meticulous approach to meet the public with a well worked-out plan based on firm solutions to all pertinent issues including financing, permits and licenses, aircraft lease contracts and operational conditions meeting all requirements, says Kuno Fenker, Aluu Airlines CEO.
According to Mr Fenker, a press release can be expected within a few weeks providing fresh information on the status and plans by Aluu Airlines.
