Aug 26, 2015 (newstodate): Moldova is taking steps to cancel the concession for managing Chisinau International Airport won by the Russian Avia-Invest in 2013 after a tender process.
As part of the concession, the Russian-owned investment company Avia Invest was to channel significant money into the development of Chisinau Airport but the Moldovar authorities claim that the little money that has actually been invested has been taken from the operational profits of the airport itself rather than representing fresh capital.
A working group has now been established to assess the legal issues around a cancellation of the contract.
19 airlines including the Latvian carrier airBaltic operate into Chisinau Airport that handled 1.7 mio passengers and 2,188 tonnes of cargo in 2014.
