Aug 13, 2015 (newstodate): Iraqi Airways is fighting to keep its air traffic up after EASA denied to issue a Third Country Operator Authorization to Iraqi Airways on July 16, 2015, which is required for airlines to operate within EU airspace.
As a consequence of EASA's decision, the carrier has been banned from operating flights into the airports of EU as well as Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway.
Iraqi Airways is now leasing capacity to maintain its route traffic and the Greek carrier Hermes Aviation is already operating Airbus A320 flights from Baghdad to Malmoe in Sweden and Manchester i the UK while solutions are pending for its other routes.
