Aug 24, 2015 (newstodate): No-one would expect western airlines to be alone in eyeing imminent gains from the warming up of relations between Iran and the rest of world after the agreement on nuclear issues.
Dubai's Emirates is among the runners-up in the race for air traffic to and from Iran, and the carrier's cargo arm Emirates SkyCargo has now announced the opening of its second trade lane between Dubai and Mashhad when Emirates begins its five daily non-stop flights from September 1, 2015, operated with Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
Mashhad will become Emirates' second Iranian destination after Tehran, which Emirates has been serving since March 1990.
In 2014, Emirates carried more than half a million passengers and transported over 17,500 tonnes of cargo to and from Iran.
With the new service to Mashhad, Emirates SkyCargo will provide more than 150 tonnes of belly-hold capacity between Iran and the UAE each week, supporting Iran exports of fruits, vegetables, carpets, saffron, nuts, and personal effects, and its imports of meat, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, machinery and automobiles parts.
The top markets to which Emirates SkyCargo carries Iranian's exports include Dubai, Kuwait, Riyadh, Bahrain, Osaka, Tokyo, Melbourne, Sydney, and Los Angeles, while main import markets include the UAE, Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai, Mumbai, Frankfurt and Basel.
