Aug 19, 2015 (newstodate): Kaliningrad on Russia's Baltic coast is seeing air services by western carriers drying up.
As the latest carrier to rein in, Air Berlin, is now down to five weekly rotations on the route between Berlin and Kaliningrad against daily rotations until mid of July 2015.
As late as by the start of the winter schedule 2013/14, the carrier increased flights on the route between Berlin and St Petersburg to two daily rotations.
The market has, however, dropped and the drastic decline in the exchange rate of the Russia Ruble has further accelerated the downward trend.
Other airlines to rein in their services to Kaliningrad include easyJet, Air France and Emirates, while other carriers including Finnair, Lufthansa, Delta, Niki, Cathay Pacific and Thai Airways International have suspended their services entirely.
