Aug 27, 2015 (newstodate): FedEx is readying to move into its new premises at Copenhagen Airport, presumably around start of October 2015.
FedEx has rented space at the airport for construction of a new 8,000 sq m facility with the capacity of sorting 11,500 packages per day, process 18 weekly FedEx Express flights, 170 truck movements per week and with a fleet of up to 36 pick-up and delivery vehicles.
The terminal is now ready for use and has been performing production tests during the recent few months ahead of a full launch of operations.
FedEx has, however, not provided any clue about its longer-term strategy behind the massive build-up at Copenhagen Airport that might either serve as a future hub or just focus on serving as a gateway for inbound and outbound shipments for Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden.
The concept behind the new facility is unique in the FedEx world by integrating both flown express shipments and all products in the company's portfolio under one roof.
In 2008, FedEx signed a contract, running till 2023, with Copenhagen Airport for construction and lease of a 1,600 sq m terminal with both airside and landside access, and adjoined by a 770 sq m FedEx office building.
