Aug 10, 2015 (newstodate): The global decline in the oil industries takes a toll on the Norwegian air transport market as well.
The earlier boom in oil and gas exploration in Norway had its center at Stavanger that has seen a significant increase in new routes and air services - which is now being reversed.
Lufthansa has thus announced its decision to pull out from the route between Stavanger and Frankfurt from this winter schedule, following on the earlier announcement by Air France to close flights between Stavanger and Paris .
Lufthansa has been serving the route since June 2003, while the last flight by Air France will be on October 25, 2015, ending a service introduced on March 31, 2014, with Air France's subsidiary HOP offering two daily rotations with Embraer 170 aircraft.
So far Lufthansa Cargo's weekly Boeing 777F freighter service at Stavanger since November 8, 2014, flying in from Houston and continuing to Frankfurt, will continue with its sole focus on connecting the two leading off-shore oil & gas destinations in the USA and Norway as well as offering export capacity via Frankfurt.
Starting from November 3, 2014, Qatar Airways also operated an Airbus A330-200F freighter through Stavanger flying from Brussels on its return trip to Doha, but the service was suspended from the start of this summer's schedule and relocated instead to Oslo Airport.
