Aug 19, 2015 (newstodate): Once sanctions are lifted, Iran will speed up the procurement processes for new commercial aircraft from western manufacturers.
According to an industry source, plans are to focus orders on Airbus A330-200 and Airbus A320-200 aircraft, as well as Boeing 737-800, Boeing 787-800 and -900 as well as Boeing 777-300ER.
Pending the deliveries of new aircraft, Iran will lease in similar aircraft to replace old aircraft in its current fleet, and start building up new air services.
In the first stage of the rejuvenation of Iran's commercial aircraft fleets, the country plans to buy 80-90 new aircraft annually, with orders evenly split between Airbus and Boeing.
The agreement reached between Iran and the 5+1 has this to say about commercial aviation:
"5.1.1. Allow for the sale of commercial passenger aircraft and related parts and services to Iran by licensing the (i) export, re-export, sale, lease or transfer to Iran of commercial passenger aircraft for exclusively civil aviation end-use, (ii) export, re-export, sale, lease or transfer to Iran of spare parts and components for commercial passenger aircraft, and (iii) provision of associated serviced, including warranty, maintenance, and repair services and safety-related inspections, for all the foregoing, provided that licensed items and services are used exclusively for commercial passenger aviation."
