Jul 31, 2015 (newstodate): Russia's ailing economy now threatens the construction works on the country's Baltic airport at Kaliningrad.
The declining exchange rate of the Russian Ruble has made planned import of construction materials and technological equipment more expensive, threatening the over-all calculations by the project contractor, the Russian company Stroynovatsiya that won the tender in 2014.
The second stage of reconstruction Kaliningrad Khrabrovo Airport includes strengthening and extension of the runway from 2,500 to 3,400 m, reconstruction of taxiways, as well as strengthening and expansion of the apron area.
The project is now, however, estimated to be running some eight months behind schedule that called for completion by 2016.
