Jul 02, 2015 (newstodate): They call themselves "Heroes of the Air", and on July 1, 2015, Danish unions and their supporters won a victory against Ryanair's plans for its 40th base at Copenhagen Airport.
From March 2015, Ryanair would allocate up to four Boeing 737-800 aircraft at Copenhagen to serve the network comprising 12 destinations, with one aircraft from March and three more to follow later in 2015.
The unions however demand that the carrier sign a Danish collective agreement with its locally-based pilots and cabin crew, and the court has now ruled that the unions do have this right as well as the right to take strike actions against Ryanair to press their case.
With the ruling, Ryanair will be forced to operate its routes in and out of Copenhagen with aircraft and crews from other bases - unless it succumbs to union demands.
In the first place, "Heroes of the Air" has managed to fight off a number of Ryanair jobs to be set up in Denmark including cabin and cockpit crews as well as other aircraft servicing employment.
