Jul 28, 2015 (newstodate): Latvia's airBaltic has taken a further step towards introducing New York as a new destination through an extended code-share agreement with Uzbekistan Airlines.
Facilitating the planned service, the US Department of Transportation has granted airBaltic a Foreign Air Carrier Permit and Route Exemption authority allowing it to offer scheduled and charter passenger, cargo and mail flights between the United States and the European Union.
After this, airBaltic plans to add its prefix to Uzbekistan Airways' route from Tashkent via Riga Airport to New York JFK.
Uzbekistan Airways has been using Riga Airport as a transit hub on its flights between Tashkent and New York since October 31, 2004, operating Boeing 767-300ER aircraft on two weekly rotations.
Since October 23, 2004, airBaltic and Uzbekistan Airways have cooperated under a code-share agreement covering the flights between Tashkent and Riga, and this agreement has thus now been expanded to comprise also the flights by the Uzbek carrier between Riga and New York.
At the same time, airBaltic will provide connecting flight opportunities for Uzbekistan Airways' passengers to destinations on airBaltic's European network.
