Jul 30, 2015 (newstodate): Kazakhstan is keen to bolster its position as a preferred hub between Asia and Europe, requiring a major upgrading of its international airport at Almaty.
The Kazakh Ministry of Transportation is currently considering bids from three international companies for the future of Almaty International Airport.
Bidders are the Chinese company Tengri Holding, Singapore Changi Airports International Ltd, and the French Vinci Group.
Tengri Holding and Changi Airports International Ltd are both proposing the building of an entirely new airport complex in Almaty, while the Vinci Group is offering a project to expand the existing airport.
The need for a decision is also spurred by the country's bid for Almaty as the site for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
