Jul 28, 2015 (newstodate): The Icelandic carrier Air Iceland, part of the Icelandair Group, has now finalized the acquisition of three Bombardier Dash-8 Q400 aircraft.
Deliveries of the new aircraft will be completed in July and August 2015, and the aircraft will enter commercial service from December 2015.
All five Fokker 50 aircraft now in the fleet of Air Iceland will be put up for sale and after that Air Iceland will operate five aircraft, three Bombardier Q400 and two Q200, allowing the carrier to optimize its operations based on an all-Bombardier fleet.
In addition to its passenger services in Iceland and between Iceland and Greenland, Air Iceland transports Icelandair Cargo shipments for onward distribution to four destinations in Greenland, and in contrast to Air Greenland, the carrier does not go via the Transatlantic hub at Kangerlussuaq but directly point-to-point in Greenland, mainly transporting perishables and consumer goods.
