Jul 01, 2015 (newstodate): At a brief ceremony at Finnair's HQs on June 30, 2015, Finnair Cargo was awarded IATA's PHARMA certificate as the first airline in the world.
The process was kicked-off on August 19, 2014, as BRUcargo launched the pharma certification program in cooperation with the IATA project team and 11 participating companies including Brussels Airlines Cargo, Finnair Cargo, Aviapartner, Swissport, WFS, AD Handling, BPL, Expeditors, UTi, SDV, and the trucking company Jan de Rijk.
Finnair Cargo's certification process was earlier anticipated to be completed by early 2015, but proved to be even more demanding than first anticipated.
The IATA PHARMA certification marks one further step ahead for the carrier that will pin much of its future growth on sustained development of strategic niches besides general cargo to be handled from 2017 at the new Finnair Cargo Terminal now under construction.
