Jul 27, 2015 (newstodate): By mid-July 2015, China's aviation authority CAAC confirmed the opening of new air services by the Chinese carrier Capital Airlines to Scandinavia and Finland, to compete with existing and planned routes by SAS and Finnair.
Operating leased Airbus A330-200 aircraft, the carrier will start services to Copenhagen Airport from Hangzhou beginning September 3, 2015, and from Beijing starting from September 6, 2016, with one weekly service on both routes.
From the outset, the route will be operated for package tours only sold by the Chinese tour operator Caissa Touristic, like Capital Airlines a company in the dominating HNA Group that also operates Hainan Airlines.
Still pending and yet unannounced, Capital Airlines will also launch flights from Beijing to Helsinki, in Finland before the end of this year.
Currently only serving domestic routes with a fleet comprising 54 Airbus A320 Family aircraft, the carrier will lease three Airbus A330 from Indonesia's Garuda Airlines to support its new strategy for international flights as well as the opening of new domestic flights in China.
