Jul 31, 2015 (newstodate): Not just a rumor: Chinese capital is taking over Swissport in a deal that will be the 5th largest acquisition of a European company by a Chinese investor.
Selling is the Swiss investment group PAI Partners, buying is the Chinese conglomerate HNA Group that owns a wide range of companies including the carrier Hainan Airlines and also Capital Airlines that is to operate flights from Beijing and Hangzhou to Copenhagen from next months.
Swissport, the world's largest ground and cargo handling company, will remain as a stand-alone business within the HNA Group, complementing HNA's existing activities including aviation, airport management, logistics and tourism.
The transaction is subject to customary regulatory and anti-trust approvals by the relevant authorities, and closing is expected by end of this year.
