Jun 25, 2015 (newstodate): The start-up carrier Greenland Express, still awaiting the final green lights from the Danish Transport Authority, is considering two options for its planned domestic services.
One option is the Czech aircraft Let-410, another is the Canadian Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft earlier built by de Havilland and now manufactured and marketed by the Canadian company Viking Air.
The Let-410 Turbolet is a twin-engine short-range transport aircraft mostly used for passenger transport and since 1969 built in more than 1,100 units.
With a range about 1,380 km, the aircraft will carry 19 passengers or up to 1,700 kg of cargo and can operate at small airports with short runways.
The Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft is a similar rugged and reliable 19-passenger utility aircraft suitable for operation in extreme environments.
While the Let-410 has no record of service in the Nordic, say arctic, markets, the Twin Otter has long been operating under arctic and polar conditions.
Greenland Express still has July 2, 2015, as its planned launch date - but the timeline will most probably have to be revised again as the Danish Transport Authority still has the case under consideration - with no final date of completion yet announced.
