Jun 17, 2015 (newstodate): Another Fokker 50, earlier serving with the Latvian carrier airBaltic, has found a new life in Sweden.
The Swedish ACMI and postal carrier Amapola has acquired the aircraft that was leased by airBaltic from Argus Aviation, and has now taken delivery of the Fokker 50 after conversion to freighter.
The aircraft is the second Fokker 50 converted to freighter with large cargo door, and both aircraft are now put on the ad-hoc and ACMI market, opening a new business segment for Amapola that is so far focused on postal flight, having this month won a fresh four-year contract from Post Sweden.
The carrier's CEO, Frank Christensen earlier told newstodate that if the new business proves a success, Amapola will consider adding more Fokker 50 aircraft for large cargo door-conversion.
With the latest delivery, Amapola now operates a fleet comprising 15 Fokker 50 cargo aircraft.
