Jun 01, 2015 (newstodate): Sweden has scored a significant edge by being selected, as one of only 10 airports in the world, by U.S. Customs and Border Protection to introduce US pre-clearance.
The announcement means that concrete discussions between Sweden and US CBP will begin in order to ease connections between Sweden and the United States.
The announcement means that US border control will eventually be carried out at departure from Stockholm Arlanda Airport instead of upon arrival to the United States, facilitating fast entry and easier access to onward flight connections.
Besides Stockholm Arlanda Airport, these 10 airports are Brussels Airport, Belgium, Punta Cana Airport, Dominican Republic, Narita International Airport, Japan, Amsterdam Airport Schipol, Netherlands, Oslo Airport, Norway, Madrid-Barajas Airport, Spain, Istanbul Ataturk Airport, Turkey, and London Heathrow Airport and Manchester Airport, United Kingdom.
Conspicuously absent from the list is still Denmark's Copenhagen Airport, the hub of the Scandinavian carrier SAS.
