Jun 12, 2015 (newstodate): A US court ruling has raised hopes in Greenland that recent tender for servicing the Thule Air Force Base at Qaanaaq, housing the US Air Force, must be re-opened.
Following the recent tender process, Greenland Contractors will be replaced with the US-owned company Vectrus's Danish subsidiary Exelis Services from September 2015 till September 2022.
But the court finds that the result of the tender is not in conformance with the spirit of the original agreement between USA, Greenland and Denmark concerning the air force base on Greenland, favoring a Danish/Greenlandic contractor.
Taking part in the tender were also the Danish and Greenlandic companies Per Aarsleff, Greenland Contractors og Copenhagen Arctic but their bids were trumped by Exelis promoted as a Danish company despite its US background.
Exelis' take-over could axe many Danish and Greenlandic jobs and cause a loss of income to Greenland.
It remains to be seen what steps in the process are next to come.
