Jun 19, 2015 (newstodate): "In Scandinavia, market conditions for ground handling have changed", said SAS in its Q2 Interim Report published yesterday.
As one result, plans for Swissport to eventually acquire the SAS Group's handling company SGH have been dropped, ostensibly due to unfavorable pricing of SGH's assets put forward by Swissport although this has not been officially stated.
Instead, SAS will slice off its handling at Norwegian line stations, excepting Oslo, and more moves can be expected to finally cut SGH to a size and content more attractive to potential buyers, and SAS said, also in the Q2 report, that "discussions are ongoing with other parties".
The change pointed out by SAS is Norwegian's recent decision to contract all handling at Scandinavian airport to Menzies that consequently set up a new operation at Copenhagen Airport by April 1, 2015, being already present at Stockholm and Oslo.
Menzies has thus replaced the Scandinavian handling company Aviator that earlier held the contract with Norwegian.
It is also known that Emirates, currently handled by Aviator at the three Scandinavian hubs, is tendering its handling contract at Copenhagen Airport.
Speculations are roaming that Menzies might become a potential buyer of SGH if the company succeeds in landing the handling contract with Emirates.
