Jun 09, 2015 (newstodate): For 20 years and despite any political issues, flights have been connecting arctic destinations across the Norwegian/Russian border.
Operating the crucial route has been the Russian carrier Nordavia serving the route from Arkhangelsk via Murmansk to Tromso, but the flight services were later subcontracted to another Russian carrier, Pskoavia.
In October 2014, the Norwegian aviation authority however revoked the license for Pskovavia on the route, noting that it actually belongs to Nordavia.
Psokavia has now had the license confirmed - but refuses to serve the route unless the Norwegian party provides subsidies to remedy the heavy costs in serving the unprofitable route.
So far, the Troms county has not come up with an offer - and services on the route remain suspended.
