Jun 24, 2015 (newstodate): Free from its shackles from January 1, 2016, after a period with limitations imposed by the EU Commission, the Polish carrier LOT will spread its wings again.
Already announced are flights from Warsaw to Tokyo Narita Airport from January 13, 2016, with three weekly rotations, and in the plans are also flights from Warsaw to Bangkok and Seoul from 2016, with launch dates and frequencies yet to be released.
The flights will be operated with the carrier's fleet of six Boeing 787 aircraft, and a seventh aircraft is due for delivery by the end of 2016.
Besides these new intercontinental routes, LOT will also reopen a number of routes temporarily suspended, as well as opening flights on routes to new destinations including to Venice, Cluj, and Ljubljana.
The expansion of LOT's Asian network will pose an immediate competitive threat to Finnair that is thriving on flights between Northern Europe and these market.
