Jun 09, 2015 (newstodate): When will Greenland see the fresh start of low-cost airline services?
Over the last few months, little news have been aired by the two start-ups, Aluu Airlines and Greenland Express.
Originally slated for June 1, 2015, Aluu Airlines postponed its launch indefinitely as more adjustments to the company structure were required for the issuance of the carrier's AOC.
On June 4, 2015, the carrier said on facebook that "We are still working on the operational aspects of the project. We can give you a clear message on when we will be able to fly as soon as all airplanes are contracted."
Aluu Airlines handed in its AOC application in December 2014 and plans for introduction of Airbus A321 services between Greenland and Denmark as well as turbo-prop feeder services between Kangerlussuaq and destinations in Greenland.
Greenland Express originally planned for its launch of services by May 11, 2015, but the Danish regulator Transportstyrelsen has till not issued the permits for the ACMI carrier that will provide the actual flight services.
The carrier will launch services on routes from Billund to Greenland's two Atlantic airports at Kangerlussuaq and Narsarsuaq, and a domestic route network will offer passengers feeder connections with turboprop aircraft to and from Nuuk, Upernavik, Ilullisat, Aasiaat, Sisimiut, Manitsoq, and Paamiut, as well as helicopter services to small hamlets in South Greenland.
In both cases, no new date has been set for start of services.
