Jun 18, 2015 (newstodate): First circulating as a rumor, it has now been confirmed by an Aeroflot spokesperson that Aeroflot will cancel its order for Boeing 787 aircraft.
Aeroflot placed its order for 22 Boeing 787 in June 2007, with the first deliveries slated for 2014 and later postponed till 2016.
Aeroflot is now backing out from the contract citing both the repeated delays to the deliveries which offers the formal opportunity to break the contract, and the softening of the Russian market for air transportation.
In March, 2007, Aeroflot also placed its order for 22 Airbus A350XWB aircraft for delivery from 2015, but it remains unknown at this stage if the carrier will also seek a way out from this obligation.
In January 2009, the first Russian carrier slated to take in from 2014 the Boeing 787, S7 Sibir Airlines also stepped down from its order placed in May 207 for 15 aircraft with options for another 10.
