Jun 18, 2015 ( newstodate): Meeting at the Paris Air Show, Latvia's Minister of Transport and top executives from the Chinese Aircraft Corporation COMAC have again raised the issue of potential cooperation in civil aviation.
As on his recent tour in China by late May 2015, the Latvian minister is keen to grow prospect for setting up direct flights between Riga and Chengdu, the capital of the southwest Chinese province of Sichuan, as a component in China's Silk Road logistics project connecting Asia and Europe.
The proposed flights would be a cooperation between airBaltic and the Chinese carrier Chengdu Airlines, a subsidiary of Sichuan Airlines.
Latvia is also seeking an investor in airBaltic that is today 100 percent state-owned.
On the Chinese side, Sichuan Provincial Government is also taking steps to manifest itself in international aviation by planning to launch the Sichuan International Airshow in September 2017, offering five days to showcase international commerce in the fast growing Sichuan region.
