Jun 17, 2015 (newstodate): Kazakhstan's Air Astana has become the first carrier to opt for the new Airbus A321NEO Long Range aircraft.
The airline has signed an order with Airbus for delivery of four of these aircraft under an operational lease contract with ALC.
The first aircraft will be delivered in 2016, with the remaining three to follow in 2018-19.
In the package signed with Airbus are also two A320NEO and one 321NEO, also leased through ALC.
Replacing the Boeing 757 aircraft in the fleet, Air Astana's new A321NEO LR will be able to operate long-haul routes such as Astana-London, and routes from Almaty to Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong.
