Jun 16, 2015 (newstodate): Building up its position as a Baltic center for aircraft maintenance, Lithuania's Kaunas Airport has entered stage I along the road.
This week has seen the launch of the first project at AEROHUB KUN in the form of construction of a new aircraft taxiway and apron.
The works are expected to be completed by early autumn this year already, and will provide new operating conditions for the first start-up investors.
With ample space available for further expansions, AEROHUB KUN will next take steps to enter the second phase that comprises the integration of Kaunas Airport and the Kaunas Free Economic Zone.
Ryanair already has two aircraft maintenance hangars at Kaunas Airport, the helicopter company Aviabaltika is building a hangar on a 19,000 sq.m. site leased for a period of 40 years, and the Lithuanian MRO provider FL Technics operates own hangars for its growing aircraft maintenance services.
Based on a 40 year land lease agreement for 40 years signed in February 2014, Global Travel Supply has also selected Kaunas Airport for a facility for production and storage of food and other products to be delivered to aircraft.
Efforts are now also focused on attracting more international investors and operators to grow the AEROHUB KUN
