Jun 05, 2015 (newstodate): Like Lufthansa, earlier reported, Germanwings is also to cut flights from Germany to Russia.
The carrier will pull out from two of its currently three routes to Russia, leaving only the flights between Berlin and Moscow, launched on June 20, 2005, on its route net.
The last flight on Germanwing's route from Dusseldorf to St Petersburg, launched on April 29, 2006, will thus be performed on August 5, 2015, and on the route from Cologne to Moscow, opened on July 16, 2005, will close with the last flight on September 22, 2015.
During the last six months, many airlines have either left the Russian market entirely, or reduced the frequency of flights.
Among the carriers that have suspended flights to Russia are Thai Airways from Bangkok to Moscow, Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong to Moscow, EL AL from Tel Aviv to St Petersburg, Aigle Azur from Paris to Moscow, Niki from Vienna to Moscow, Wizzair from Kiev to Moscow, and easyJet from Manchester to Moscow.
Airlines that have cut down on frequencies include Etihad, SAS, and SWISS, Wizzair, while other airlines like Emirates have reduced their offerings by introducing smaller aircraft on the routes.
