Jun 23, 2015 (newstodate): Greenland Express still pins its hopes on an early approval by the Danish Transport Authority, allowing it to launch traffic on July 2, 2015. But time is running out..
-We are despairing of the overly long time required by the Transport Authority to clear the last remaining issues they may consider pending, and the process was also not helped by the dispute that broke out between the Authority and the government of Greenland over who should have taken action on our application in the first place, says Gert Brask, Greenland Express.
-On our side, everything is in place to start flights on July 2 from Billund Airport to Kangerlussuaq and Narsarsuaq, we have landed a major new US investor to support the start-up phase, and contracts with the operator to provide the flights are also in place. We just need the final go-ahead, says Mr Brask.
While the traffic will still be provided with Airbus A320 aircraft, Greenland Express is now to contract the Bulgarian carrier BH Air to operate the route, replacing earlier plans for cooperating with the Portuguese carrier White Airways that has five Airbus A320 Family aircraft in its fleet.
For the domestic connections in Greenland, Greenland Express will operate Czech-built Let-410 aircraft on a contract with the Canadian carrier Viking Air.
-Viking Air has promised us that they will be able to allocate the first Let-410 aircraft without notice for service from early July 2015, says Mr Brask.
According to the files, Viking Air is,m however, not an operator of the Let-410 today, flying only de Havilland aircraft including the Twin Otter and Dash-7 aircraft types.
