Jun 02, 2015 (newstodate): The Polish carrier LOT has surprised the market by suspending flights to five otherwise successful international destinations.
With immediate effect, flights from Warsaw to Dusseldorf, Kiev, Zagreb, Belgrade and Yerevan as well as domestic services between Gdansk and Krakow has been suspended till January 1, 2016.
Behind the suspensions is the EU investigation of alleged state aid to LOT that ended with a positive outcome for the carrier by the end of last year.
However, LOT is prohibited from benefiting from these state grants to exploit its advantage over competitors, and the airline has thus been forced to scale down its services.
Also contributing to the decision is LOT's shutdown of its subsidiary Eurolot which returned some routes and flights to the mother company.
