Jun 01, 2015 (newstodate): Luckily for Estonian Air, a new wet-lease contract has supplanted the agreement with the now-defunct carrier Air Lituanica.
Air Lituanica returned one Embraer E-170 aircraft after its abrogation of services from May 23, 2015, but Austrian Airlines has now signed up for one similar aircraft to serve with the carrier till the end of this summer schedule by October 29, 2015.
Estonian Air has a total of four E-170 aircraft on a lease contract with Finnair, operating its first flight with the aircraft on January 27, 2011, originally on a one-year lease contract that was since prolonged.
Finnair is leasing the E170 aircraft from SMBC in Dublin, so Estonian Air is subleasing from Finnair.
Estonian Air is now to start the redelivery process from August 2015 with one aircraft per month to Finnair, and Finnair will then hand back the aircraft to their owner, SMBC, ending up with a single-type aircraft fleet.
Also contributing to the carrier's vehement efforts to obtain a better cost/revenue balance is the recent decision to seek a sale/lease-back of its three CRJ900 aircraft, which has been entrusted to Skyworld Aviation.
