Jun 02, 2015 (newstodate): Emirates has become a highly valued airline customer at Denmark's Copenhagen Airport - not least in the freighter segment.
Emirates now operates a daily Boeing 777-300ER passenger flight between Dubai and Copenhagen offering belly hold capacity in addition to 12 freighter departures a week from Copenhagen, summing up to 55 departures a month.
-Emirates SkyCargo uses Copenhagen mostly for its flights to and from the United States. Copenhagen's geographic location makes it a convenient point for en-route technical stops, and given the freighters and passenger services operating to and from Copenhagen it lends itself as an ideal hub in the region, says a company spokesman.
-With effect from July 1, 2014, we decided to consolidate all freighter operations in Copenhagen as we could achieve greater efficiency by operating all our freighter flights alongside one of key online passenger points. In addition, we have expanded our presence in Scandinavia, launching a daily service to Stockholm in 2013 and to Oslo in 2014, giving us good coverage in the region.
-At the moment we have no further plans to increase operations through Copenhagen, other than the deployment of an Emirates Airbus A380 on the route to meet growing passenger demand.
-Compared to the Boeing 777-300ER currently used on the route, the A380 has a smaller cargo capacity. The A380 carries about eight tonnes of cargo, compared to the 777-300ER which carries about 20, but we are comfortable that we will still meet customers' needs with the capacity provided by our freighters, which carry just over 100 tonnes each, the spokesman says.
