Jun 10, 2015 (newstodate): China is keen to redress the imbalance in the provision of flight services between China and Europe that is today in European carriers' favor.
As one measure to change this situation, China's aviation authority CAAC is expected to confirm the opening of new air services by the Chinese carrier Capital Airlines to Scandinavia and Finland, to compete with existing and planned routes by SAS and Finnair.
China Capital Airlines has thus applied with CAAC for start of flights from Hangzhou to Copenhagen, Denmark, from September 3, 2015, and from Beijing to Copenhagen from September 6, 2016, pending the eventual permits.
But the carrier's plans do not end here: Capital Airlines will also launch flights from Beijing to Helsinki, in Finland before the end of the year.
Currently only serving domestic routes with a fleet comprising 54 Airbus A320 Family aircraft, the carrier will take in three Airbus A330, probably on a lease from its mother company, Hainan Airlines.
