May 4, 2015 (newstodate): Romania is eagerly seeking a partner to boost the development of the country's Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport.
As part of the efforts by the country, the prime minister is touring the Gulf region to attract interest in investing in the airport.
Last week he met the CEO of Qatar Airways and this week the tour will continue to meetings with Emirates and Etihad airlines to press the case.
A detailed plan for the development of the airport with two CAT III 3,500m runways has long been on the table, comprising extension of piers, enlargement of the transit area, replacement of the existing departure terminal with a new building, and other infrastructure elements.
Earlier efforts in talks with European parties have failed to produce results, so Romania is now turning to the Gulf and Arab states to find viable financing and partnership.
